Who I Am
My name is Sara Ann Sanders, founder of New Roots Yoga. At 29 years young, I am a licensed social worker and yoga teacher. I’m currently taking some time off from practicing as a mental health therapist for a host of reasons, one of those being the passion I have for yoga. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, I currently live in Jonesboro, Arkansas with my six year old beagle child, Luna.
I completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training at Griffin Power Yoga in the fall of 2019 and hope to complete a certification in yoga therapy in the near future. I love that yoga can integrate my passion for mental health and I have found it’s a perfect way to connect two things that are important to me. I’m eager to learn more and I look forward to sharing what I learn along the way and I hope you’ll join me and maybe even learn something, too.
I found yoga in the darkest time of my life. I didn’t know it yet, but I was searching for something. I may not have known what was missing in my life at the time, but yoga helped me figure that out.
With yoga, I found freedom. Freedom from expectations, from assumed limitations, from my mind, from myself. Yoga transformed my life in ways I never thought it would. I thought it would be an outlet, an escape. I figured I’d get more flexible, tone up a little. What I got from yoga was so much more than that. I learned how to make dramatic and transformative shifts in my mind and in my life. All from simply stepping onto my yoga mat and surrendering to what showed up for me.
I was blessed with an amazing yoga studio with fantastic and supportive teachers who shared their knowledge and constantly empowered me. My teacher set out on a mission to share the work with others. She selflessly gave her time, money, and loads of energy to teaching me and handfuls of others how to tap into their potential and transform their lives the way yoga transformed her life. I believe her deepest desire was and continues to be that she would teach people who would help her continue to share this work with the world and I believe I’m one of those people.
So I hope you’ll join me. My vision for this is that it will be not just a place for me to share my thoughts and experiences, but a place where you, too can feel seen and heard, and a collection of resources for you. My hope is that this can be a place where you can come to remind yourself you’re not alone, find a little inspiration, and have access to the tools that I use in my own practice and life to work on those thoughts, feelings, and core beliefs causing you pain in your life. Whether it’s physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual, I believe that I have the tools that can drastically change your life, if you’re ready.
Stay tuned for more. I’m working on creating lots of things and I really can’t wait to share them with you! Be sure you’re following me on Instagram and Facebook (@newrootsyoga) to get updates.
Thank you for being here and sharing your time and energy with me. The light in me honors the light in each and every one of you.
Namasté,
Sara Ann ?
